spa [spah] n derived from the name of a hot springs village in Belgium called Spau, where Europeans went to "take the waters" by bathing in or drinking of the mineral waters to cure health problems.
 
Spa is a facility that promotes the well-being of the body, mind and spirit in a soothing and calming environment.  Various skincare and body treatments are performed by professional therapists to reduce stress and improve the quality of life.  Spa is often referred as a retreat or sanctuary of beauty, pleasure, wholeness and wellbeing.
